2014 Julius Merlot
$25.00
Many years of trial and tribulation in the vineyard resulted finally in a wine style that is perfectly suited to the micro climate of our north western patch in the Barossa Valley .
Selecting the best clone available as well as close planting ensured the vine root systems were forced to compete strongly resulting in very low yielding vines .Marcus was adamant he wanted to produce a Merlot that had no green carriers and no ferraris on the tongue ,but was also lower in alcohol ,yet still had rich colour good structure and strength of flavours. Careful use of barrels was also required so that the oak characters did not dominate the suppression of fruit. The Merlot has a vibrant inky and dense purple hue , setting the stage for a fresh fruit “bomb” to follow.
The nose has lifted aromas of mulberry and Satsuma plum ,with a hint of cassia or blackcurrant, enhanced by some mint and black cherry overtones .
The palate is medium body and excitingly fresh ,truffle like blackcurrant flavours, subtle cashew nut oak nuances ,and finishing with supple ,silky smooth tannins .This wine matches well with strongly fish dishes ,pasta or lighter red meat dishes such as roast lamb. This Merlot is a variety of wine for both gender’s to enjoy Julius was one to enjoy a “SCHLUCK” around great company and atmosphere”.
