2014 Dr’s Grenache
$30.00
Mataro was first introduced to Australia during the 1830’s when it became a work horse of the early colonial wine industry , used mainly for fortified wine . The variety is valued for it’s adaptation to warm climates and, when grown correctly, will give colour, perfume, balanced tannin and approachable drink-ability while it’s still young. Such is the 2010 Maria Mataro which was produced from very low cropping vines at Primrose where Marcus grew up.
The wine has a delightful youthful colour, garnet with purple hues, and it’s vibrancy continues on the nose and palate.
Aromas of rhubarb and spice are married with anise and ‘prune compote’ characters . On breathing the wine for a few hours sweet cherry and toffee are also evident .
The palate is medium weighted and generous with flavours of blueberry , fresh thyme and dark cherry.Through the middle palate one experience’s some gamey and savoury
characters, with a light touch of gentle oak . An elegant wine that finishes with firm but fine tannins and a lovely lingering natural grape flavour .
Ideal with slow cooked lamb shanks , roast duck , or other specialities like kangaroo or game sausages .
