Our Vision
Due to Linda having a love of Mother nature and gardening it is one of the reason, I Marcus have always loved working with Creation. From an early age I have loved the smell of healthy soils twenty years plus of no pesticides and going down the organic track, and biological, sustainability now in the last three years we have gone down the biodynamic road. Sustainability can mean many things , but we have 10% bush to land . Our vineyard is now environmental friendly To achieve A grade grapes in the vineyard we have to tick 5 main boxes. First is.
- A grade pruning , with the right amount of buds which varies from variety to variety Pruning is from end of May to one day in September.
- Shoot Thinning; To have an open canopy and the right amount of shoots per metre which is time consuming, fiddly and expensive extra WORK
- To have moisture in the ground under control by means of soil management inter row permanent grasses , sword , and ground cover which means the vines will stop growing around Christmas time.
- Must have most of the leaves on at véraison or in other words when the berries start to colour and ripen evenly not halve coloured and halve green. When baumé reaches about 12 the G.L.O. turn up like a flock of birds and inspections in the vineyard starts.
- One of the most important is to have the grapes in good balance which means baumé, PH, TA and most of all is the taste in the mouth of the G,L ,0. Once the grapes are de stemmed and the fermenting stage begins, which brings out the aroma, colour and all other characters unfold, then its up to the wine maker to start his judging process. Which means A ,B, C, or D, grade the next is a kick in the ass and out the door and NO contract.
